Ruger SR-22 Rifle Review: Part 2 - What's In The Box & Specifications

A brand new Ruger SR-22 Rifle comes boxed as shown below.  As you can see there is no hard case provided with the rifle.  Depending on your point of view, this can be positive or negative.  I prefer that the manufacturer not provide a case so they can reduce costs of the product,  especially when many cases that are provided will not work once you have added various accessories such as optics and forearm grips.  You can then spend your money to get a case that will fit your preferred rifle configuration.

The end of the box contains the various serial, model, and catalog numbers.  As you can see the Catalog Number and Model Number for this rifle are SR-22R and 01226, respectively.

The contents of the box were very simple.  It contained the SR-22 rifle, one rotary magazine, lock clamp, lock, lock installation instructions and a Ruger SR-22 Rifle Instruction Manual.  You can view this Instruction Manual online at the Ruger site by going to the this link.

The information in the table below was taken from the Ruger website and shows a summary of the specifications for this rifle.

Catalog Number: SR-22R
Model Number: 1226
Caliber: .22 LR
Capacity: 10
Stock: Black Synthetic, Collapsible
Length of Pull: 10.00" - 13.00"
Sights: None
Barrel Length: 16.12"

Grooves: 6
Overall Length: 32.75" - 36.00"

Weight: 6.50 lbs.

I measured the length of pull to be from just under 10.25" to about 13.63".  The two photos below show my measurements.  This is slightly different from the specs, but not a big deal.

I measured the barrel from the bolt face and the photo below shows the length.  Without taking off the flash hider, it is hard to say where the barrel really ends, but you can see that it is clearly a 16" barrel.

A quick look down the barrel and you can see (if you look long and hard) the six grooves.  Using my cleaning rod and watching the rotation as I pulled the rod through the barrel, I checked the twist and the twist appears to be a 1:16 right hand twist as specified.

The shortest and longest lengths of the rifle based on stock position were measured to be just as Ruger stated, 32.75" and 36".

I measured the width of the rifle to be 2.00" at the forearm tube.  Actually the cocking handle sticks out about 1/4" more on the right side, so it is actually about 2.25".  The total height of the rifle measure in at about 7.10" as shown below.

Lastly, the gun weight is at 6.53 pounds with the magazine installed but unloaded.

Overall the rifle appears to be per the Ruger specs as you would expect.  The length of pull was slightly different than Ruger's specs, but since it comes with an adjustable stock and it was close, I don't think this difference matters.
