Ruger 22/45 Lite Review

The Ruger 22/45 Lite Pistol comes boxed as shown below which seems to be the standard packaging for Ruger handguns these days.

The end of the box had a sticker with the critical information about this pistol such as:

  • Model: 03900
  • Finish: Gold Anodize
  • Serial Number: 390-12979
  • Catalog Number: P45MK3ALRP
  • Caliber: .22LR

When you open the box you see the pistol and all the extras are packed well to prevent damage.  As you can see below, the 22/45 Lite Pistol comes with a black soft case and was tucked away inside when I received the pistol.

The two photos below show everything that comes inside the box which are:

I always like to take a look at the date on the fired cartridge case to get an indication of how new the handgun is that I receive.  In this case, it appears to have been fired on 7/19/12 and I actually received it at my local gun store on 7/28/12, so I believe this to be a recently built pistol.  I always believe this is a good thing because it gives me a chance to see what is currently coming off the assembly line.

This next set of photos was taken to help me document the "as received" condition of the pistol and gives you a good first look at the Ruger 22/45 Lite Pistol.  As a reminder, you can click on any photos in this review to bring up a high resolution photo allowing you to see the finer details.

First Impressions

I had two distinct first impressions.  The first thought was how light colored the gold anodized looked on the aluminum upper receiver.  The finish seemed to have a hint of silver-ish in it's appearance.  The next was how lightweight the pistol felt.  Clearly the aluminum upper receiver made a big difference in the weight of the pistol and this reduced weight may appeal to many people.
